i said goodbye to chad last night. it was sentimental, but not sappy.

i gave him a copy of “the beach” by alex garland. maybe it’s a bit cliché, seeing that he’s going to thailand, but that’s okay. he said that he’d look out for the beach in question; i suggested that there are other nice beaches in thailand to visit.

i also gave him a letter, wishing him well. i told him that today would likely be the longest day of his life. seeing as how he left vancouver at 10:30 am this morning and will be arriving in taipei the next day at 3:30 pm, it’s not something to scoff at.

once we exchanged some final words and kisses, i biked off. i immediately knew that everything that i had done with chad had been done with wisdom, class and genuine kindness. it made me feel more at ease with myself; today, with the exception of me writing this posting, i did not think of him.

i received an e-mail today from ubc’s exchange office. apparently, i’ve been accepted to nanterre.
