transit hopping.

February 21, 2009

so, what do you do when you want to go from point “a” to point “b” and you have more money than time time than money on your hands?

easy: you go transit-hopping.

here’s my plan for a week or so this summer:

(all trips are on public transit buses/trams unless otherwise noted.)

vancouver (BC) > white rock
white rock > blaine [on foot]
blaine > bellingham
bellingham > mt. vernon
mt. vernon > everett
everett > seattle
seattle > tacoma
tacoma > olympia
olympia > centralia [by train]
centralia > longview-kelso
longview-kelso > salmon creek
salmon creek > vancouver (WA)
vancouver (WA) > portland

i’m not sure how prevalent this mode of transport is, but it really ought to be more thoroughly explored.

also, translink should really look at extending the community shuttles in white rock all the way to the border crossing. considering that they’re using minibuses, that there is a NEXUS lane (that can easily double as a queue-jumper) and that there’s a last-minute turnaround point before you cross the border, there’s no reason that it couldn’t be done.

’cause it really is a long walk otherwise.

If you had “more money than time on your hands”, wouldn’t you take the fastest transportation possible regardless of cost?

or maybe you mean the other way around 😉

This sounds like a great trip.

I have heard good things about Portland, but only ever driven through it myself.
